Nelson, Esq., Nelson & Nelson, P.A.\n \nFollowing the 2017 Tax Act, which increased the Basic Exclusion Amount to $11.18 Million (single) and $22.36 Million (married), those with estates in excess of $10 Million should consider whether this is a good time to initiate QTIP trust or SLAT planning to (i) enhance asset protection and (ii) possibly reduce estate, gift, and GST taxes. This presentation discusses the benefits and drawbacks of inter vivos QTIP trusts and SLATs and ten factors that must be considered before a decision is made as to which option may be best. Specifically, in deciding whether to create an inter vivos QTIP trust or a SLAT under the 2017 Tax Act the following ten factors must be considered: (i) net worth; (ii) remaining Basic Exclusion Amount; (iii) ultimate estate beneficiaries; (iv) potential for creditors’ claims; (v) income tax basis issues; (vi) elder exploitation concerns; (vii) effective trustee; (viii) desired ultimate disposition of assets; (ix) legal and administrative fees; and (x) acceptance of entering into Post-Nuptial Agreements.\n \nDinner Meeting Generously Sponsored By:\n \n[](https://www.grovebankandtrust.com/)\n \nThe workshop session has applied for 2 hours of continuing education credit and the dinner presentation has been applied for 1 hour of continuing education credit for the following disciplines:\n \nCLE ETHICS (Legal), CFP (Certified Financial Planners) and CPE(Accountancy)\n \nPlease send your RSVP so that we may guarantee dinner accommodations for you and your guests.
